OKONKO IN NGWA LAND

Introduction

Nzuko Okonko Nde Ngwa of North America(NONNNA) is committed to preserving and promoting the Okonko culture and traditions, which are fundamental elements of Igbo heritage within the Ngwa communities of Abia State and their neighbors. The association is founded on principles of truth, fairness, and innocence, which are symbolized by emblems such as OFO LA OGU, the ọmụ (palm frond) denoting authority, and drums utilized for communication. Traditionally, the Okonko Society has overseen dispute resolution, maintained social cohesion, and upheld community moral standards, including environmental stewardship and leadership accountability. In contemporary practice, Nzuko Okonko Nde Ngwa of North America is dedicated to preserving these customs, placing particular emphasis on truth, discipline, and robust family values among its members. The organization serves as a vital institution, fulfilling both symbolic and practical roles by strengthening bonds within the community, building brotherhood and wellness, supporting educational efforts, maintaining unity, peace and order, and helping to develop strong leadership skills.
